Best Red Lipstick for the Holidays

With a coffee and red lipstick, a girl can conquer anything, am I right?!

I personally love a red lip! For me, lipstick is the one thing you can put on and it completely transforms your look and a red lip is perfect for the holidays. My superpower happens to be picking a perfect red lipstick and I’m rounding up all my Mary Kay favorites for those holiday parties.

(Wait, you weren’t thinking of going to a holiday party without red lipstick, were you?!)

Ok, I get it. Red lipstick can give you a serious boost of confidence, but it can also be really intimidating for some women...especially if you don't wear a lot of color on your lips. All reds are not created equal! If you think you can’t pull off red lipstick or it just doesn’t look good on you, you’re probably just picking the wrong shade.

While everyone's skin tone is a little different, in general, there are four main skin tones (deep, medium, light, and fair) and three main undertones: warm, cool, and neutral.

A simple trick to figure out your skin's undertones is to look at the veins on the inside of your wrists. If your veins look green, you’re warm, and if they look blue or purple, you’re cool. If your veins are somewhere in between blue and green, you’re neutral.

Here’s a little guide to help you find the right red lipstick shade for you!

Deep skin tones look amazing in orang—based reds for a brighter makeup look, or darker, wine-colored reds, for a darker glam look. If your deep tone has a golden undertone to it, the best way to bring out the golden undertones is to rock a true, classic red.

I like Poppy Please Semi-Matte Lipstick, Red Smolder Semi-Shine Lipstick or Red Stiletto Semi-Matte Lipstick.

Medium skin tones can be warm, cool, or neutral, so your best shade depends on your undertones. For warm, medium skin tones, pick a warm orangey-red lipstick for a rosy red hue. If you’re a cool, medium skin tone, go with a blue-red. If you’re neutral, you’ll look great in either!

Firecracker True Dimensions Lipstick or Midnight Red Semi-Matte Lipstick are good options.

Light skin tones are different from fair skin tones in that they have a bit of a yellow base. Orangey-reds and other peachier red shades will look amazing on them.

Poppy Please Semi-Matte Lipstick with a Red Lipliner is perfect! Iconic Red Unlimited Lip Gloss works too.

Fair skin tones can be warm, cool, or neutral, so your best shade will depend on your undertones. Blue-based reds are best for cool undertones, and orange or rosy pink-based shades look best on fair skin tones with warm undertones.

I like Scarlet Red Semi-Shine Lipstick is a great red lippie and Spice 'n' nice True Dimensions Lipstick.

Lipstick can also be one of those things that you sometimes just need to try before you buy and that's where I come in. Lets get together and try some lippies either virtually or in person. You can schedule a glam consultation by clicking here.
